Open a photo, select Edit, and select the Pixelmator extension. There are 4 options to edit a (RAW) photo in Photos with Pixelmator.ġ.

Here are a couple of articles that detail what you need to do: /how-to-shoot-raw-photos-on-iphone/I have looked into further, in particular relative to RAW file editing from within the Apple Photos app (I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max with RAW capability). To avoid the compression issues, you can actually shoot raw on the iPhone. We'd actually have to convince them that they have a bug. It doesn't appear to understand the format natively is my guess. The Flickr app is probably the cause of the issue.

How is that Flickr is the only one that I know that can't fix this.Neither FireFox nor Chrome show these files on Windows 10. Google/Amazon/ and even the parent company of SmugMug has this figured out. How is that Flickr is the only one that I know that can't fix this. What's stupid about this situation is that no other photo service has this issue. Right-click on the image to see the actual size.
The actual image is over 1000 px wide and is scaled in the browser. Both are taken from this page, cropped and scaled up without any interpolation to make it easier to see the effects of compression. Here's HEIF image compared to JPEG image. I don't own any Apple products and cannot verify any of this, but if it's possible to save images in the HEIF format and then share them as JPEG images (and delete JPEG after), that would be the most optimal usage of this new image format and it would use less storage. If you choose Most Compatible the photos you upload to Flickr will have all of your camera and camera settings info.HEIF images are superior to JPEG and if this setting changes the format of saved images to JPEG, you would be losing in storage and some functions that can be applied to these images. If you choose Most Compatible the photos you upload to Flickr will have all of your camera and camera settings info. The default setting is "High Efficiency". It's at the bottom of the first group of camera options.įrom Formats, you have 2 choices. On an iPad the settings for Camera appear on your right. The option reads "Most Compatible" on my iPhone.įrom the SETTINGS application Select Camera. The OP's suggestion does not mention changing the format to JPG.Ĭorrect, there is no JPEG option. There is no option to change format to JPG on ios 11 on ipad. J.p.coleman edited this topic 42 months ago. Let me know if this helps or if you have a question about the answer / issue. Of course, if your running a version older than 11, you don't have the problem with the missing EXIF data!

IF you are still running an older version of ios you should carefully consider the upgrade as 32-bit applications will require an update to run on the newer ios. I'd recommend ios 12.x.x over older versions if your device is capable of running it. NOTE: ios 12 is the first upgrade for ios that actually runs faster than previous ios versions. to get your metadata (EXIF, iPhone phone model, etc.) to transfer to Flickr you must select "Most Compatible"Įach photo you take from then on will contain all of the metadata you are used to.Ĭlarification for some, there is NO explicit JPEG option. The default setting reads "High Efficiency", the new HEIF/HEVC format. When Apple changed the default file format from a JPEG variant to HEIF/HEVC the metadata (EXIF, etc.) is largely missing. I Saw several closed threads about missing metadata / EXIF on photos auto uploads from ios devices.
